Why I’m a Doula

For me, being a doula is not a choice - it is a calling.  Ever since I was a little girl, I have been passionately absorbed in the quest to help mothers and babies. I always knew that this was a uniquely special relationship and that it was something that I not only wanted for myself, but that I also wanted to celebrate in other families. Bringing a new child into the world is undoubtedly important, and though millions of families do this all over the world each year, it is completely unique each time that it happens. So I learned everything that I could about this time period and the needs of the family, both emotionally and physically. It has been an absolute joy to learn through education and experience.

MY SERVICES

INITIAL CONSULT

In some cases, this will happen before baby is born, and others, we will first meet after baby has already made their appearance. Our initial meeting is completely free of charge, as I feel that it is important that this relationship is a good fit for everyone. It is always an honor when I am welcomed into someone’s home, especially at such a vulnerable time for a family. At this first meeting, I want to get a sense of how I can be most helpful. If we agree that we are a good match, we can prepare a schedule and plan going forward.

SUPPORT THAT FITS YOUR NEEDS

I am excited to learn more about you and your family so that I can provide the best support for your specific needs. Bringing a new baby into a family can be exciting, scary, joyful, and all emotions in between. It is my job to support you wherever you are emotionally and to help out in the most useful way physically.

POSTPARTUM SUPPORT

I sometimes find my job difficult to explain because it is ever-changing depending on the needs of each individual family. In my experience, a postpartum doula is a resource for the whole family during the wonderful and often chaotic postpartum time period. Some families are looking for help with the newborn, others are trying to find a way to juggle more than one child, while some are looking for someone to assist with small household chores so that they don’t feel overwhelmed. Whatever it is that makes you feel most supported during this time, that is what I am hoping to offer you as a postpartum doula.

RESOURCES & EDUCATION

I believe that a parent should trust their instincts, and I am here to support your individual parenting style. I'm happy to offer information and education, but ultimately this is your journey and only you can know what works best for your family.

Any new parent needs to feel supported, so it is important to me to understand your current support system and offer resources that connect you to your community if this is something that you are interested in.
